Plymouth Christian Academy, a K-12 school, provides students an education that can impact them for eternity. Our well-balanced elementary program for grades K-6 allows students to gain a sophisticated understanding in the central disciplines of Bible, math, science, history, and language arts.
Additional courses enrich our curriculum by the incorporation of music, art, world language, physical education, STEM lab, and technology. We maintain a high standard for academic rigor with many hands-on, engaging instructional techniques for academic achievement.
Our desire is to equip students to utilize knowledge and skills for lifelong learning, leadership, and service to others. Students attend chapel weekly to worship together and learn biblical truths.
At PCA, we believe that each student is created in the image of God with a purpose. As students are immersed in learning from a biblical worldview, we watch them grow as learners, leaders, and followers of Jesus. In kindergarten through third grade, spiritual development focuses on worldview formation, biblical story introduction, and scripture memory. In fourth through sixth grade, spiritual formation focuses on a growing heart affection for Jesus, Bible content knowledge, ongoing scripture memory and loving our neighbors. Plymouth Christian Academy Elementary features a small classroom environment with an average of 20 students per teacher. Children have the opportunity to build community in a safe and loving environment.
PCA aligns its instruction with state and national standards to ensure students meet grade level norms. Each subject is taught from a biblical worldview. Our students have the privilege of understanding the world in which they live from a meaningful and eternal perspective.
During the school year, PCA students take an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) provided by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). We give the MAP assessments to determine instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year. This assessment is given multiple times each year in the areas of reading and math.
MAP assessments are adaptive tests and allow students to answer questions from varying grade levels, depending on their current knowledge base. The NWEA MAP provides data points that allow PCA staff to form skills groups and evaluate current levels of instuction and readiness, intervention needs, and growth across the year.
Following the September assessment period, parents will receive a report showing their child’s baseline information in math and reading. Future assessments will also indicate the growth students have made
Math Olympics
Math competency is critical to a strong academic education. Each year, students in grades 3-8 have the opportunity to participate in the ACSI International Math Olympic Competition.
Speech Festival
PCA students in grades 3-6 participate in the annual Speech Festival. The students chose a literary piece from one of the following categories: serious poetry, humorous poetry, monologue, or scripture. After weeks of working with speech coaches, the students present their speech in front of a panel of judges. The trophy winners move on to present before the entire elementary student body. This valuable program helps the student to expand their academic program and gain poise and confidence through public speaking.
Spelling Bee
PCA students in grades 1-6 participate annually in the ACSI District Spelling Bee. Students are selected based on spelldowns within their classrooms. PCA students have consistently advanced to the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee.
Creative Writing Festival
The Creative Writing Festival allows students in grades 6-8 to explore their creative writing skills. Each student submits an original writing piece from one of the following categories: essay, free verse poetry, playwriting, song lyrics, or short story. These pieces are evaluated by judges and finalists are selected for further evaluation amongst other schools in our region. Students increase their writing ability and get to build skills in creative expression.
Summer Reading Program
During the summer, PCA students coming into kindergarten through 5th grade are encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading Program. The purpose of this program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue improving their comprehension skills and developing independent reading habits. All students participating in the program receive a reward in the fall.

We are thrilled to be able to offer a large variety of field trips/field experiences to PCA elementary students. Grade level teachers plan field trips to enhance the curriculum, engage in the community, and enrich the PCA elementary learning experience. There are also overnight trips in our upper grades. In 5th grade, students take a trip to Camp Michindoh in Hillsdale Michigan for a three day, two night learning experience. This adventure is tailored to our 5th grade curriculum and includes opportunities for students to learn about science, social studies, life skills and enjoy nature and friendship building! In 6th grade, students travel to West Michigan for a day in Grand Rapids and a day in Holland. This overnight trip consists of museum, zoo, and garden visits with various cultural experiences. This is a great celebration of the Bridge year as students transition into middle school!
