Sixth Grade

Sixth Grade

At PCA, sixth grade is the “bridge year” between elementary and middle school. Sixth graders are still considered part of the elementary school, but they are beginning to participate in middle school activities. Sixth graders will eat in the secondary cafeteria with the seventh and eighth graders and will attend middle school chapel services. In addition, they are able to join middle school teams like robotics, soccer, basketball, track, and volleyball.
Our sixth grade teachers are intentional about teaching the organizational and study skills necessary for success in middle school. The sixth graders’ day is  structured differently than any other grade at PCA. They start and end the day with their “own” teacher and class, but spend the rest of the day rotating between the sixth grade teachers for different academic subjects. This gives students the opportunity to practice changing classes, thinking through what materials they will need, and managing assignments from multiple teachers. The teachers are in daily communication with one another and are able to quickly support students who are struggling to learn these skills. Students complete sixth grade with the skills necessary for success in middle school
As a Christian private school, the Metro Baptist School faculty is committed to developing these goals as we develop lifelong learners, leaders, and servants.
